UL Research Institutes
Advancing safer energy storage through science.
Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the UL public safety mission through the discovery and application of scientific knowledge. We conduct rigorous independent research and analyze safety data, convene experts worldwide to address risks, share knowledge through safety education and public outreach initiatives, and develop standards. The Electrochemical Safety Research Institute (ESRI) at Underwriters Laboratories Inc. is one of the institutes in UL with a mission to advance safer energy storage through science. Their focus is to characterize energy storage, currently in the form of batteries but will be working with professors at UH on hydrogen storage and other new energy storage materials.
Our technology focus is Energy Storage. We are currently working with various battery chemistries such as Lithium-ion, Lithium primary, lead acid, flow batteries and plan to start working on new materials for Sodium-ion, Magnesium-ion, and hydrogen storage.
